Day 2 in San Francisco

We started our second day in San Francisco at the Aquarium of the Bay.  It is located at Pier 39.  Not a big aquarium, but fascinating anyway.
There was a cool walk-through aquarium.

There was a nice tidal pool display where the sea stars, small rays and urchins could be touched.  While we were there, a docent was giving a talk on the red-eared slider (turtle).  It's a great place for kids and we saw several school groups in attendance.

Next on the itinerary was a cruise of the bay.  Both the aquarium and the cruise were part of the City Pass.  It was pretty chilly, so we spent most of the cruise inside.  Throughout the cruise there was a narrative describing the sights and history of San Francisco Bay and facts about the Golden Gate Bridge.  The cruise took us around Alcatraz, under the Golden Gate Bridge and then back to the pier, passing the sea lions on the way.
We lunched at the Wipe Out Bar and Grill.
Glenn feasted on Clam Chowder and a shrimp salad.
I choose the grilled shrimp.
Our next stop was the newly re-opened Exploratorium (another part of the City Pass).  What an amazing place! We wandered around for awhile looking at all the hands-on displays.  It was mind-boggling!  Our grandkids would have a blast there!

We didn't take many pictures here, but had to take a photo of this amazing structure made of toothpicks!  Imagine working on this for 37 years!
