Grand Canyon National Park

It was an easy trip from Williams to our campsite at Trailer Village in the Grand Canyon National Park.  The campground is paved with pull-through sites, lots of trees, full hook-ups and even cable TV!  We wanted to camp inside the park to allow us the maximum time to explore with plenty of time for rest breaks without a lot of driving to and from.  In fact, the only time we used the truck was to drive to Tusayan for dinner one night. The park has an excellent shuttle system and there was a shuttle stop a short walk from our campsite.

I really don't know how I will manage to pick photos to post in this blog from the hundreds we took!  But I will give it a try!

These first photos will be from the day we took the train ride.  I'd have to say the biggest thrill that day was seeing the California Condors!  Not only are they very endangered, but seeing them adds one more to my birding life list.

Do you know they have a wingspan of 91/2 feet?!  At time, there were only 22 left in the wild, so they captured them all and started a breeding and release program.  There are now around 400, but they are still having a tough time due to lead poisoning.  They eat carrion that has been shot with lead bullets and that leads to the lead poisoning.

Petroglyphs on Bright Angel Trail

At the arch

Pam, Glenn and I walked a short distance on the Bright Angel trail.  This trail will lead you to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.  We certainly weren't up to that, but we did go as far as the Arch.  Just on the other side of the arch were some petroglyphs.  Willie didn't go with us because the trail was a little too close to the edge for his comfort!

Hopi House

Sand painting
The Hopi House has wonderful native art pieces.  They had me drooling and my credit cards shrinking in fear!  If there was room in the motorhome, I would have been tempted.
