Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz

While researching things to do in San Francisco, we read about the City Pass.  For one price, you get into 4 attractions and unlimited use of the Muni system ( trolleys, cable cars, buses).  We decided this was a good deal and printed off vouchers for 2 and we booked a cruise to Alcatraz.  Alcatraz was on Glenn's "bucket list", a big reason we came to San Francisco!
Now that we had an idea of what we wanted to do, we had to figure out the city's transportation system.  For many of you, that would not be a big deal, but for us, it was.  I can think of only one occasion I took the city bus in Columbus and have had few occasions to use mass transit elsewhere.  Although, I think I used the subway and buses in Spain, but that was a loooong time ago!
Anyway, the campground was just 3 miles from the nearest BART (subway) station so we took it to Powell St. to turn our vouchers into our coupon booklet at the Visitor's Center.  From there, we took one of the old style cable cars down to Hyde Pier.
From Hyde Pier we took a short stroll down to Pier 39.  This is where there are a lot of shops, restaurants and of course, the sea lions!  We had booked an afternoon cruise to Alcatraz, so we spent some time wandering around and had a Sally's Famous Fishwich for lunch.

Then we killed some time watching the sea lions.
It was time to get on the boat that would take us to Alcatraz, so we headed down to the cruise line's pier.  I will post separately about Alcatraz.
When we disembarked from our cruise, we made our way back to Pier 39 and had dinner at Bumba Grump's Fish Co.  We always enjoy eating there!  We then walked back to Hyde Pier to catch the trolley back to the BART and on to our campground.  We had quite a wait since everyone else was leaving then, too.  Poor Glenn's feet, he had developed some blisters and was ready to stop walking!  We watched the sun set behind the Golden Gate Bridge and shivered as we stood in line.  Boy, did it get cold once the sun set!
