Williams, AZ and Train Day

The Canyon Railway RV Park is quite nice!  It's fairly new, so the trees in the campground are small and provide little shade, but someday it will be great.  It's completely paved with lava rock islands between sites.  This would be appealing to many travelers, but disappointing to others. All the sites are large pull thru sites. It has nice bathroom and laundry facilities and pool and hot tub privileges at the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel.  There is a large playground and camp store.  They will even shuttle you back and forth!  A huge advantage to staying at this campground is that it is an easy walk to the town of Williams!

All of the posts on the front of this store were different carved figures.

Really good BBQ here!

We enjoyed a couple of walks to town, poking around the various shops and enjoying the many restaurants.

During the summer, the first Saturday of the month is Train Day in Williams.  We just happened to be there on the right Saturday!  They put several  engines and cars on display and we could even enter some.  They also give shorter rides on the train and there were some model train displays set up, also.

Can you see us?  We really blend in!

Can't pass up an antique fire truck!

We had such a great time catching up with Willie and Pam!  I'm so happy we were able to change our plans and enjoy Williams and the train ride with them.  We already had reservations at Trailer Village inside the National Park, so we would say our goodbyes and move on down the road.  Pam and Willie were on their way to their summer job in Colorado.  We have met so many nice people during our travels and it is great when our paths cross and we can re-connect!
